Of course I miss Scotland. It’s too beautiful a country not to. And in case you don’t believe me, here are a few photos we’ve collected over the years as a reminder of just how stunning a place it really is. Click on the photos for a better appreciation.
At the top of the page is a sight I used to pass by several times a week. Every time I saw it I stopped and marveled at how picturesque it was. It is the view from Partick Bridge looking towards the tower of Glasgow University.
This photo could have been taken anywhere in Scotland. There are so many lochs and mountains. In fact it was a shot looking across Loch Linnhe just south of the Corran Ferry on a clear May day in 2014.
The pic below shows just how lucky I was to have been brought up in Largs, a seaside town on the Clyde Coast. On a summer day with clear blue sky and flat calm water, the scenery takes some beating. The ferry at the pier travels to and from the Isle of Cumbrae.
Scotland’s castles are – to put it mildly – totally awesome. Dunnottar Castle, south of Stonehaven, is one of the most dramatic, perched on cliffs overlooking the North Sea.
Another day, another castle. We had a wonderful few days on Royal Deeside a few years ago. Craigievar Castle, ancient seat of the Clan Sempill, is pink and looks like something out of a fairytale.
Most cities have rivers running through them. Glasgow is famous for the Clyde, but it also has the more peaceful Kelvin in the West End. This shot was taken from the Queen Margaret Drive bridge looking upriver. Stunning autumn colours.
Yep! Scotland attracts its share of eccentrics, a fair few of them looking for the elusive Loch Ness Monster. The guy who owns this caravan has parked it in the village of Dores for more than 20 years. He keeps an eye out for sightings of the beast, sells Nessie-related trinkets – and even pays his council tax. Crazy!
Sailing off the west coast is an absolute joy – especially on a day as clear as this one. The pic was taken between Oban and Mull and shows the lighthouse on the island of Lismore.
The historic Melrose Abbey in the Scottish Borders is a photographer’s dream.
Hi Iain, An old friend from the past here. Good luck in the states.
Good heavens Lenny. You are a blast from the past. Where are you nowadays and how are things?
Nice to see Largs looking so good. There have been some fabulous days this year and when mum and I were out for a walk tonight the sunset was stunning. Could only happen here.
